Point or Redemption Stores
L.J. Lawson
We're getting more and more requests for point or redemption stores - they don't want to allow for people to order more than the designated value or number of items. For example, just in the last week I have a two non-profits wanting to "gift" one item to their volunteers - I can do this with a coupon code and not have items priced but can't control how many items they order so I have to check each individual order. And I have a company wanting to do their annual corporate apparel program but would like to have a dollar amount budget for each person (but not have them order above this amount and pay) but would also like to have it set up to their employees as points rather than dollar values. (They'll allow up to $100 per person but would rather assign each employee 20 points to buy products and then we'd establish a number of points per item - we know it's about $5 per point but that isn't obvious to the employees.)
I have found a number of workarounds to create these stores BUT it's all very manual and can be confusing for the customers (which is the last thing you want to do when gifting items (make it too hard and frustrating for the recipient).

This would be so helpful! We have companies with 500+ employees who do their ordering online. The method we've used is each employee inputs their employee # with the discount code... and it's tedious because we have to manually check each one against an employee list to ensure they are only using it once. Otherwise we would have to create thousands of gift certificates or individual discount codes, which then becomes a pain when employees can't keep track of their stuff/can't find them in their inbox, and end up constantly reaching out to have it resent so they can use it. Its a total pain!

This would actually be a lifesaver. I have a similar situation with a company that we just brought on. They have been using a point system for about 25 years and don't really want to change that but are wanting to get into the 21st century and do their annual ordering online. Each employee is awarded 10 points per year and different items have different values but the dollar to point value is kind of arbitrary. I've been racking my brain to come up with a way to seamlessly transition them into online ordering but so far have not come up with an idea.
A best case scenario would be to use gift certificates to issue point or dollar values and to put a cap on how much each person can order. For instance, if a customer has any value in their cart after applying the certificate the system would not allow them to checkout, essentially putting a maximum on the amount that is allowed to be ordered. This would allow for everything to be entirely paid by the company yet not allowing a customer to checkout and only pay $1 (or 1 point) for a t-shirt.
In a way, turning off the "checkout" function would solve this and every order placed would be treated as a point value instead of a dollar value.
It would be an immediate solution for us as well, especially with this new client that we are bringing on. Hopefully this thread makes it to the correct person!

Thanks for this request. We also have found work-arounds that are labor intense. We would love this option for many clients.
